In Memory of Dave Norburg

alt
Having landed his final flight and closed his last deal,
Dave Norburg of Lenexa, KS, was peacefully freed from this earth on Aug. 6, 2009.

His courageous battle with brain cancer provided more than 5 additional years of life - a gift few are able to enjoy.

He lived all of his 51 years with integrity, humor, love and dedication to those he cared for.

His greatest pride was his three wonderful children.

Dave will be dearly missed by many family members and close friends.

Dave was born April 4, 1958, in Kansas City, MO. Raised in Brookside, he attended Border Star Elementary, Bingham Junior High, and Southwest High School, where he played varsity football and was editor of the student newspaper. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. While in college, he spent a year abroad in Stirling, Scotland, where he was a member of a rugby team.

Dave spent 8 years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator, flying A-7 jets off the USS Saratoga. After an honorable discharge, Lieutenant Commander Norburg earned his J.D. degree from the KU School of Law in 1991. He practiced corporate law in Kansas City as a partner in the Shughart, Thomson & Kilroy and, later, Kutak Rock law firms.

He leaves his wife of 26 years, Ellen Kriegshauser Norburg; son, Matthew Robert (22), US Marine Corps, Quantico, VA; daughters, Casey Elizabeth (21) and Molly Danielle (15), of the home. Also surviving are Dave's parents, Royce and Theodora Norburg, KCMO; sister, Diane (and Wilson) Stafford, Leawood, KS; brother, Daniel (and Mary Beth) Norburg, Overland Park, KS; and in-laws Bob and Mary Ann Kriegshauser; Cathy (and Michael) Kohn; Patti (and Chris) Haffner; Sheila (and Gerry) Ricken; Jeff (and Jennifer) Teckman, all of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves 14 nieces and nephews and too many friends to count. He was preceded in death by a niece, 2 sisters-in-law, and a cherished friend.

Dave will be fondly remembered for his undying love of family, BBQ, golf, Mexican food, and his beloved Jayhawks.  The family gives special thanks for incredible care by many medical professionals, especially Dr. Charles Conrad and Dr. Frank Slovick.
